Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know which training pathway is right for me?
Before your booking is confirmed, you'll be asked to complete a short enquiry form. This helps us understand your experience level, project goals, and what you'd like to achieve during your session.
We'll review your information and recommend the most suitable pathway to ensure you get the maximum benefit from your time in the studio. Whether you're a complete beginner, a fashion student, a designer working on a collection, or an experienced embroiderer looking to improve your digitising skills, your training will be tailored to your needs.
Do I need any previous embroidery experience?
No. Our Beginner Embroidery & Digitising pathway is suitable for complete beginners and hobbyists with no prior experience of embroidery software or commercial embroidery machines.
Do I need to bring my own laptop?
No. Access to a laptop with Wilcom E4 embroidery software is included during your session. If you already use Wilcom and would prefer to work on your own laptop, you're welcome to bring it along.
Do I need to bring my own fabric?
Not necessarily. Basic training materials and sample fabrics will be available for learning and practice.
If you're working on a specific project, university collection, client commission or product range, we recommend bringing the fabrics you'd like to embroider so we can test and sample under real-world conditions.
Can I bring my own artwork or designs?
Absolutely. In fact, we encourage it.
Many students, designers and businesses attend with a specific project in mind. Bringing your own artwork allows us to tailor the training and create embroidery files that are directly relevant to your goals.
What embroidery software will I learn?
Training is delivered using Wilcom E4, one of the most widely used professional embroidery digitising software packages in the industry.
You'll learn practical techniques that can also be applied to other embroidery digitising software.
Will I use commercial embroidery machines?
Yes. Training takes place in our working embroidery studio in Stockton-on-Tees, giving you access to professional commercial embroidery equipment and real production workflows.
Can you help with university projects and fashion collections?
Yes. We regularly support fashion students, textile students and designers who need help developing embroidery samples, creating collection pieces, preparing portfolios or solving technical embroidery challenges.
Can I bring a friend or colleague?
Yes. Most sessions can be booked for one or two people.
Two-person sessions work particularly well for business partners, creative collaborators and students working on the same project. Please note only one laptop will be provided for you to use.
What if I have a specific embroidery problem I need help solving?
That's exactly what these sessions are designed for.
Whether you're struggling with stitch quality, fabric puckering, thread breaks, digitising settings or production challenges, we'll tailor the training around your specific requirements.
Will I leave with completed embroidery samples?
In most cases, yes. Depending on the complexity of your project and the time available, we'll aim to produce test samples during your session.
Larger projects may require additional machine time, which can be arranged separately.
What happens if my project needs more time?
If your design or collection requires additional sampling or stitch-outs beyond the training session, this can usually be arranged for an additional fee. We'll discuss this with you during your session if needed.
Do you provide a supplier list?
Yes. You'll receive access to our recommended suppliers for embroidery threads, stabilisers, fabrics, backing materials and other useful embroidery supplies.
Where does the training take place?
All training takes place at our embroidery studio in Stockton-on-Tees, Teesside, in the North East of England.
We welcome visitors from across the UK.
Is this suitable for embroidery businesses?
Yes. Our Professional Embroidery & Advanced Digitising pathway is specifically designed for embroidery businesses, machine operators and professional digitisers looking to improve quality, efficiency and production knowledge.
