Location: Runa Farm, Barnard Castle, County Durham, UK.

On an autumnal October's day at the magical Runa Farm, the couple exchanged personal promises to one another and celebrated under the stars.

What inspired your wedding location, venue and vibes?

I always knew that I wanted to get married in autumn, but I’d originally wanted a sort of festival-y disco wedding in tipi. But when we discovered Runa Farm, that plan went completely out of the window, and we were taken by the boho, rustic vibe, which is what inspired us to really run with the autumn theme. We incorporated rust, terracotta, blush rose and brown into our colour scheme where we could - bridesmaids dresses, decor, flowers etc. - and really leaned into nature with pinecones and dried grasses.

How did you find the wedding planning process?

I’ll be honest, as someone was terrible anxiety, I found the planning process quite difficult. I enjoyed thinking about colours and the look of the whole day and how I wanted our guests to experience it all, but gosh, I was terrified! But when it came to the actual day, I ended up having the best time and all of our guests have said the same.

We’re quite lucky in that we do part time wedding videography, so we’d been able to see vendors in action at other weddings. That’s how we discovered Paul Lytton, our magician, Nicola Rothwell, our photographer, Emerald Thieves, our band, and Studio Social North, who did our photobooth. My hairdresser was my hair stylist, and I wouldn’t have had anyone else do my hair, and I discovered Steph, our makeup artist on Facebook after seeing her regularly do wedding makeup at Runa Farm. We also picked our florist and cake maker because we’d met them before and had loved their work. The whole process of finding and booking vendors was a breeze!

What was your favourite moment of the day?

The highlight of the day for me was definitely doing our personal promises and that would be my one tip to other engaged couples - do your own personal promises! It can sound really daunting and it’s quite a vulnerable thing to stand up in front of everyone and say such personal things, but it’s so much more meaningful than just repeating the registrar and you’ll get to physically keep those promises forever to look back on. It was a really special moment for us and lots of people said how incredibly moving it was. Definitely recommend!

What elements did you aim to capture within your jacket design and why?

We often joke about our star signs and how much Matthew suits his Leo traits, but also that we’re both fire signs and that it was meant to be, so I wanted my jacket to reflect that a bit. When I saw the ‘Written In The Stars’ design, I knew it was for me! I loved that I was able to add our constellations on and tweak the design a little to suit our day (I asked for the clouds at the bottom to be removed and replaced with roses and dried grasses to match our wedding flowers). And what Beth produced was exactly what I had in mind!
